Traditional Chinese Age System In contrast, some cultures, including one of the traditional Chinese age systems, have distinct ways of age counting. Here, individuals are considered to be 1 year old at birth, and they age further during the Traditional Chinese New Year, not on their actual birthday. This means a baby born a day before the Traditional Chinese New Year would be considered 2 years old just two days later.

Month and Day Considerations Calculating age can get complex when dealing with month-end dates. For instance, the period from Feb. 20 to Mar. 20 is considered one month. However, calculating age from Feb. 28, 2022, to Mar. 31, 2022, can be done in two ways. One approach sees Feb. 28 to Mar. 28 as a month, resulting in an age of one month and three days. Alternatively, if both Feb. 28 and Mar. 31 are viewed as month-ends, the age is just one month. This confusion arises due to the variable number of days in months. In our calculations, we adopt the first approach.

Challenges in Calculating Age
